Dr. Chenglong Duan

I am a seismologist and Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences (EEPS) at Rice University. My research combines seismic field observations and computational models to explore the solid Earth, with a particular focus on Earth structure and seismic source properties. The broader goal of my research is to advance our understanding of the magmatic systems and subsurface thermal/fluid processes relevant to energy transition.

Research Interests

Develop exploration-scale seismic imaging methods to study Earth's crustal structures and micro-earthquakes (e.g., magmatic system, energy resources), with potential extensions to other planets.
Leverage AI/ML techniques to automate the classification of large-scale seismic datasets by source type (e.g., underground explosions, earthquakes, long-period tremors).
